Understanding your Student Identification (ID)

What is your Student ID & what are the benefits

When you enrol with a school, you will receive a student identification card*. Many institutions such as New Zealand’s Banks and the NZ Transport Agency require proof of identification. Often this will be your Passport or a New Zealand driver's licence if you have one. In many cases, a Student Identification is not accepted as proof of ID however there are a number of places you can use your ID card. A student identification is more often associated with accessing various discounts and offers as a student.

By supplying your ID card from your education provider, you can benefit by accessing cheaper lift passes at the ski fields, in Queenstown & Wānaka among other tourism opportunities. It is beneficial to ask any tourism operators if they offer student discounts. When you begin your course, or prior to starting, ask your education provider what their student ID can access. You might be able to get discounts on coursebooks, or software. There are also a number of telephone companies that have bonus plan options for students. View a few below:

International Student ID options & details

As an International student, you may also be eligible for the International student identity card which gives you discounts in New Zealand and globally.

Some banks in New Zealand offer a student account package for international students that can include a New Zealand account in your home currency.
